Former store worker must repay $78K for theft
A Butte man has been ordered to pay more than $78,000 in restitution for stealing items from a sporting goods store where he worked as an assistant manager and selling them online.
The Montana Standard reports (http://bit.ly/WlxTtX ) 45-year-old Richard Young pleaded guilty to felony theft and was sentenced Thursday to eight years with the Department of Corrections with seven suspended.
A manager at Bob Ward and Sons first went to police in October to report that he suspected Young was taking items and selling them online.
Investigators determined Young made 25 online sales between May and October 2011 totaling more than $15,000, including a $2,500 spotting scope that sold online for $1,500.
Court records say Young told investigators he took merchandise from the store while closing at night.
