Landowners try beaver flow device to save dam
A beaver flow device has been installed in a beaver dam near the town of Four Corners in an attempt to maintain water flows while also keeping the beneficial aspects of the beavers and their dam.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that workers last week installed the device on a 500-acre property near Four Corners owned by a couple who like the wetland and the animals it attracts.
Bob Judd and Kathryn Kelly also say the standing water helps maintain groundwater levels.
George Alberda of the Kughen Ditch Company says it's unclear yet if the device will work.
But he says the company wants to give it a try because there are 36 different ditches off the Gallatin River where the system could possibly be used.
