What does the world's most powerful man have in common with an English soccer player?

Not much until now.

President Barack Obama was apparently mistaken for defender Chris Smalling, with the president's image appearing on unofficial World Cup mugs for the English national team.

Obama is pictured wearing the English soccer jersey with the caption "Chris Smalling World Cup squad Brazil 2014" below.

A junior staffer had been tasked with finding royalty-free images of Smalling, according to The Daily Mail.

And yeah. They screwed up. Big time.

But the mugs are now a hot commodity in Great Britain, where retailer Wholesale Clearance UK is selling them as novelty items.

The company got about 2,000 of the mugs. And they're going fast.

"Every now and again something strange crops up and, with the interest in social media, it goes crazy," Andy White of Wholesale Clearance UK told the BBC. "They are a real novelty value. Once they are gone, they're gone."
