$1.4M grant to stabilize river banks near Laurel

YELLOWSTONE RIVER
HELENA, Mont. -

Montana's U.S. senators say a $1.4 million federal grant will go toward stabilizing the banks of the Yellowstone River near Laurel that eroded due to flooding two years ago.

Democratic Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester said Friday the Federal Emergency Management Agency grant is part of a project to restore Laurel's water intake system.

Spring flooding in 2011 altered the path of the Yellowstone away from the city's water intake system. The river is Laurel's main water source.

Tester says in a statement the grant is a step in getting past the flooding and providing Laurel residents with the water they need.
