One woman is in the hospital after 2 riders were caught in an avalanche Saturday north of Bridger Bowl Ski Area, according to the Bridger Bowl Ski Patrol.
We're told a man and a woman left the north boundary of the ski area to ride in the backcountry, and both were caught in an avalanche. One skier suffered a broken leg, and the other escaped with minor injuries.
Because the area is outside Bridger Bowl boundaries, Gallatin County Search and Rescue responded.
In their avalanche advisory for Saturday, Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Specialists warn recent windloading and new snow combine to make avalanche danger "high" on wind loaded slopes in the Bridger Range.
That means natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered avalanches are very likely. On non wind loaded slopes, the danger is "considerable". That means natural avalanches are possible and human-triggered avalanches are likely.
Bridger Bowl Ski Patrol tells us the GNFAC plans to investigate the slide Sunday.
