Averills eye downtown Whitefish for hotel prospects
WHITEFISH, Mont. -

The owners of The Lodge at Whitefish Lake wrote a letter to city council expressing a desire to build a hotel in downtown Whitefish.

Brian Averill of Averill Hospitality said the company would like to construct a "Timeless Boutique Hotel" on the corner of Third Street and Central Avenue, an area currently used as a parking lot. Averill hopes to work with the city to develop a subcommittee that would develop a preliminary development agreement. He feels this hotel would be a property that could "bring economic growth to the community."

The prospect came with mixed thoughts from visitors and residents.

"Honestly I would probably stay at the bigger property simply because its on the lake," said Diane Swaim, visiting from Chicago. "I love the downtown area. If they could make it go with both properties I say go for it. Good for them."

Council members will discuss the proposal further at their next meeting on February 18th.
