Bill would allow hunting with silencers in Montana

Lawmakers in Helena are considering a bill that would allow hunters to use silencers on their guns. Silencers, also known as suppressors are used to make gun shots quieter.
Right now, hunters aren’t allowed to use silencers on their guns while hunting, and are cited if caught. Opponents of the bill say using a silencer is not sportsmanlike and unsafe, especially if others are in the area.
Supporters, however, say silencers can help prevent hearing loss.
“Hollywood has kind of demonized [suppressors], thinking they’re an assassin’s tool or whatever. They’re a safety device,” said Scott Hansen, Manager at Frontier Guns and Ammo in Kalispell.
Krayton Kerns (R-Laurel) is the primary sponsor of the bill. The text of the current draft can be read here.
