Bozeman Deaconess Hospital wins award for patient care

BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Bozeman Deaconess Hospital has been recognized for taking great care of its patients.

According to the website HealthGrades, the hospital ranks among the top 15 percent in the nation in patient experience and is the only hospital in Montana to  receive the award.

The award is based on information collected from medicare and a hospital consumer survey.

Chief Nursing Officer Vickie Groeneweg tells us all of the hospital's staff is focused on quality and safety when it comes to patient experience and the award means they're accomplishing what they set out to do.

"This is an affirmation and a conformation of the work that we are doing the fact that everyone here is committed to giving patients the kind of experience they want for their own family. And so when you get recognized like that it tells you that you are doing the right thing and keep on doing more," explains Groeneweg.

She says the award is unique in that it marries quality and patient experience and says you can't have one without the other.

Groeneweg says they've been working hard to provide the best customer experience by putting patients and their families at the center and allowing them a say in care. She says they try hard to include both the patient and the patient's family in "bed-side reports", so they can provide input. Manager and staff do hourly rounds so patients get what they need, when they need it. Medication administration has been streamlined and earplugs and masks are available for patients to sleep uninterrupted.

HealthGrades is a website that lets patients search, compare and rate hospitals and physicians.
