A former Missoula mayor is Governor-elect Steve Bullock's choice to lead the Department of Revenue.
Mike Kadas was Missoula's mayor from 1996 to 2006.
Before being elected mayor, he was a democratic state house representative, and is currently the director of special projects at Rivertop Renewables in Missoula.
Rivertop is a startup Missoula company that uses renewable chemicals.
The economist said Montana needs to maintain the level of services we're providing by building key infrastructure.
"To make sure transportation and communication are functional," said Kadas," and work to attract business, our infrastructure with our education system. Education, " said Kadas" is the biggest leveler in our economy. We have to continue to trail people to do new types of things."
Kadas said it's important for Montana to maintain its budget surplus.
Governor-elect Bullock said Kadas brings diverse, private and public sector experience to the post.
He said he knows what it's like to balance the budget and make payroll.
"He's got what it takes to maintain our strong fiscal position," said Bullock.
