BUTTE, Mont. -

A firm that builds components for jet engines in Butte plans to expand its operations.

GE Aviation and Marysville, Wash.-based SeaCast Inc. announced Thursday that they have established a joint venture - Montana Precision Products - to produce jet engine components at SeaCast's facility in Butte.

Company officials say the venture will enhance GE Aviation's global supply chain as its engine production rates continue to rise.

SeaCast's operation in Butte has supplied components for GE Aviation for several years. Under the joint venture, both companies will invest in the Butte facility in order to increase its production capabilities.

"We’re seeing this as a very positive thing for the local Butte economy," said SeaCast Vice President Bert Robins. "One of the great things about these jobs is they are truly sustainable. There are very few places, manufacturing facilities that have these capabilities, and as their business continues to grow, our business here in Butte will continue to grow."

The Butte operation has 70 employees and officials say it is expected to grow over the next four years. It will manufacture tubes, ducts and small structural castings for GE jet engines.
