Car, home, business thefts cause concern for Kalispell residents
KALISPELL, Mont. -

A rash of burglaries in cars, homes, and businesses has residents concerned and with a lot of unanswered questions. Kalispell Police said it's happening all over town, but Flathead Valley Community College and other large parking lots around the city are hot spots on the vehicle break-ins.

One NBC Montana viewer told us her car window was smashed in and thieves made off with her gym bag and several pricey electronics just a few weeks ago.

KPD tells NBC Montana there have been 28 home and business break-ins since January as well as multiple car burglaries.

Detectives say these are crimes of opportunity, as thieves will simply open unlocked doors to take anything they think is valuable.  Folks we spoke to hope residents become more aware of their surroundings before leaving their home or car.

"My goal is to create awareness in this valley," said Jennifer, a viewer whose new car was broken into. "It's very surprising that something like this would happen in Kalispell. But it's really happening. Doesn't matter if you lock your doors. They stole my gym bag. So if you keep your stuff in your trunk, out of sight, out of mind is really the best thing to do."

Crimestoppers (406-752-8477) is offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of individuals connected to these crimes.
