Community Medical Center opens new units for newborns and families

There's major medical news in Missoula.

Community Medical Center is breaking ground on a new $6.5 million oncology center.

It will quadruple in size from the old one, and should open in November, 2013.

Community is also celebrating new labor and delivery, and neonatal intensive care units.

Baby twins Eleanor and Matilda, pictured with their parents, Sarah White and John Lilburn, took a tour of the labor and delivery center, with its private rooms and jacuzzi tubs.

Thew new ICU also has private rooms.

Parents can stay with babies, and the unit is three times bigger than the old one.

"These programs," (oncology and ICU and labor and delivery) said Community Medical Center's chief executive officer Steve Carlson, "demand has outstripped the space and we're needing to build to better accommodate those that we serve."

The women and new born center will open next Monday, October 22nd. a postpartum unit opened at Community last Christmas.

The three units cost $17 million.
