Former MT man sentenced for bank embezzlement
A former Montana man has been sentenced to three months in prison and ordered to pay just over $49,000 in restitution for stealing money while loading automated teller machines for a bank in southwestern Montana.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says 42-year-old Thomas L. Beckner of Newport, Ore., was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen of Missoula. Beckner must spend five years on supervised release, with the first six months on home arrest.
Beckner worked in information technology at Valley Bank of Belgrade. He maintained the bank's computer network and ATMs and replenished the cash in the ATMs. Court records say he acknowledged removing cash from the ATM cassettes. An audit determined nearly $47,000 was missing.
He took the money between March and May and pleaded guilty to embezzlement by a bank employee.
