Gifts for Flathead vets apparently stolen

KALISPELL, Mont. -

Volunteers in the Flathead were shocked to find out that someone had apparently stolen gifts from under a Christmas tree at the Kalispell Center Mall. The alleged theft happened at the Veteran’s Home Giving Tree.

Folks are able to go by the tree, pick up a card that lists a gift suggestion and go shopping for a vet. Salvation Army volunteer Carla Brandt says a man apparently went by the tree, and told a volunteer he was there to pick up some gifts for the vets, before making an exit with a handful of items.

The Salvation Army doesn’t run the veterans’ tree but volunteers look after it to help out. Folks got suspicious when they noticed the man left a box of batteries that someone had bought for a veteran

The only description available at this time is that the man was well dressed and appeared to know what he was doing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kalispell Police Department at 758-7780.

“To take from a veterans’ tree is, let alone from any tree is just, like…They’re here serving us, and yet we do that to them,” said Salvation Army volunteer Carla Brandt.
