House passes bill to permit gun possession on college campuses

House Bill 240 would allow anybody from the public to walk onto a university campus in Montana with a firearm.
That could be a pistol on the hip, a rifle over the shoulder or any kind of concealed weapon as long as the person has a concealed weapons permit.
The Montana University Board of Regents opposed the bill in the house, saying it was a double standard.
"Legislators wouldn't allow guns in the capitol around other legislators," Montana University System Spokesman Kevin McRae says, "so would they think it's OK to allow them around students in an educational setting?"
McRae and the university board will be at the senate meeting when the bill is assigned to a hearing and they will present their opposition again. They urge the public to make themselves heard.
