LEWISTON, Idaho -

The Port of Lewiston in northern Idaho is advertising in Montana and North Dakota hoping to attract business from companies working in oil fields.

The Lewiston Tribune (http://bit.ly/10V1koK ) reports that port commissioners on Wednesday approved spending $5,800 on ads that will appear in newspapers in Sidney, Mont., and Williston, N.D.

The Port of Lewiston is billed as the West Coast's farthest inland port, connected to the Pacific Ocean by the Columbia and Snake rivers.

Port Manager David Doeringsfeld says oil companies could save money sending equipment through their facility rather than having equipment from overseas travel through the Panama Canal before entering the United States in Houston.

Port Commissioner Jerry Klemm says many people probably aren't aware Idaho even has a port.
