Judge sets $150,000 bail for man accused of Walgreens robbery, high speed chase
Over the weekend NBC Montana told you about a pharmacy robbery that turned into a high speed chase on Highway 93 north of Missoula. Monday the suspect faced the judge.
Court documents say 31-year-old Michael Scott Burke from Spokane Wash., robbed the Walgreens on Brooks Street Friday night, at gunpoint, demanding the clerk turn over all of the Oxycontin on the shelves.
Then prosecutors allege he sped through Missoula to Arlee where his car hit a spike strip. But the chase didn't end there. Officers say Burke ran into the woods before they eventually found and arrested him.
And it turns out he's been in trouble before.
“Mr. Burke has at least two prior felony convictions. I'm not aware with any contacts he has with the community and I think the seriousness of this offense requires such a high bond,” said Missoula County Deputy Attorney Jordan Kilby.
Missoula County Justice Court Judge John Odlin set Burke’s bail at $150,000 and Burke didn't argue. The public defender told Judge Odlin they'll wait until Burke's appearance in Missoula County District Court to discuss it.
