Kalispell Regional Medical Center is adding a Ronald McDonald House family room to their facilities. The daytime use room will be a spot where families of patients under 21 years old receiving treatment can relax, surf the internet, and do laundry. Staff call it a home away from home.
Ronald McDonald House state board member Michelle Hadwin said it's been a long road trying to get the room approved but said the end result will be worth all their time and effort.
"It helps them [families] get through a crisis. It helps them be with other people who get it," said Hadwin. "They've gone through it, or they've seen it, or they volunteer there. It's just a great atmosphere. If you have to go through something traumatic it's a great place to do it."
The family room is currently under construction and should be completed by January 2013.
