Senator Jon Tester will meet with Kalispell city officials and city council members on Wednesday to discuss the city’s priorities and visions for the future. City officials plan to bring up the city’s unfinished Highway 93 bypass project, in hopes of discussing what Tester may be able to do in terms of pushing for federal cash.
The goal of the 93 bypass project is partly to reduce congestion downtown. The construction of the southern half wrapped up in 2010. The city hopes to finish up the northern half as soon as possible, but so far, no federal funds have come through. That’s why they plan to bring the topic up with Tester tomorrow. They hope to see if there’s anything they can do to work toward funding in the future.
“The best reason for us to complete that is to accommodate the tourists and to make our downtown pedestrian friendly and parking friendly so that we can help those downtown businesses thrive and fill up the buildings downtown,” said Kalispell Mayor Tammi Fisher.
