Language immersion school proposed for Whitefish
A northwestern Montana church is the location of a proposed new language school that would immerse kids in Spanish, Italian, French and Russian - and possibly Mandarin Chinese.
Jean Amidon and Catherine Owens say they saw a need for the school in Whitefish, a resort community that hosts tourists from around the world who come to ski at Big Mountain.
They say Whitefish is rich in culture for a small town and offers a diverse array of educational opportunities, but not much for language.
Amidon says the idea behind the school is driven by the notion children should begin learning foreign languages at a young age in order to be successful.
The school would be located at Whitefish Foursquare Church.
