The following is a news release from the Peace Corps.

"Missoula ranks near the top of the list of metropolitan areas with the highest number of Peace Corps volunteers per capita.

Twelve currently-serving Peace Corps volunteers call Missoula home, making it the No. 2 volunteer-producing metropolitan area per capita.

“We’re thrilled to see Missoula continue to set the standard for Americans’ dedication to promoting world peace and friendship,” said Janet Allen, regional manager of the Peace Corps West Coast Region. “The worldwide contributions of these Peace Corps volunteers are in no small part inspired by Montanans’ global awareness and enthusiasm for service.”

With 48 volunteers currently serving worldwide, Montana is the seventh highest producer of Peace Corps volunteers per capita among states. Historically, Montana has produced 1,349 Peace Corps volunteers who have helped promote a better understanding between Americans and the people of the 139 countries in which they have served.

Montanans serve around the world and bring home experience in vital work areas, including agriculture, environment and community economic development.
