Missoula firefighter injured battling Sunday morning blaze
A fireman was rushed to St. Patrick hospital after he was injured responding to a garage fire Sunday morning.
Officials say the fireman was injured after falling off a ladder onto some scrap iron and other metal debris. Despite the 15-foot fall officials tell us the fireman didn’t sustain any life threatening injuries.
As for the fire -- The Missoula Fire Department and Missoula Rural Fire District were dispatched Sunday morning after a neighbor noticed a local machine shop's front garage door was aflame.
Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour. Officials at the fire department say it’s hard to calculate the cost of damage due to the large amounts of metalworking machinery, but they believe the damage is significant.
We talked to the shop’s owner who says his entire business was based out of the shop.
“I'm going to have to see what's left of the equipment and see if one of the other shops in the area have got a corner that they'll let me set up or sublet or something,” said shop owner Bill Cosier. “Unfortunately the equipment is heavy and pretty unmanageable and you don't move it on a whim so I’m trying to take the rest of the day to figure out what to do.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
