Missoula hosts 19th annual First Night celebration
First Night is a tradition that started in Boston 36 years ago and had spread around the nation since. The celebration was created by artists trying to create a meaningful New Year’s Eve celebration of arts and culture.
Now for the 19th year the Missoula Cultural Council has brought the celebration to Missoula. First Night includes 95 different events at 25 venues around the Missoula area. Many of the events are musical performances with artists playing a variety of music from rock and punk, to jazz and country. There are also dance performances, comedy, theatre, activities and more.
First Night volunteer Matt Anglen says it’s because Missoula is such a community oriented city that First Night has really taken off. “We're really giving people a chance to shine and we're also giving Missoulian's the chance to see what their town can create and it's usually pretty awesome.”
First Night buttons are $15 and can be purchased at a number of locations around Missoula; to find out where or for more information about First Night click here.
