MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Missoula County Sheriff's office reports a male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell early Friday morning .

Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jason Johnson said the man was found alone in his cell during a routine check by detention officer. They check every cell, every half hour. Johnson said CPR was conducted but the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Johnson said the inmate was not on suicide watch. “There wasn't any indication with detention staff that were any related issues or problems with suicide.”

Based on county procedures, outside agencies conduct in-custody death investigations. The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office and the Missoula Police Department are still working on the investigation. The name and age of the man will not be released until the investigation is complete.

Johnson said the Missoula County Sheriff's Office sends their condolences to the family and friends affected by the incident.
