MISSOULA, Mont. -

Patrick Bendig is recovering from surgery after he was beaten with baseball bats during a store robbery Tuesday morning.

As many as 4 suspects are believed involved.

No arrests have been made.

Bendig was working as an all night clerk at Jay's Mart on Missoula's south end, when the suspects, armed with bats beat him on the head, and stole the cash drawer.

Now, a Facebook user and friend of Bendig's is urging customers to fill up their tanks at the store in support of the cashier.

"It's just a family store," said customer Laci Conway.

"It's just heartbreaking," said customer Stephy Sanchez.

"The guy's life changed in less than 30 seconds, "said Bill Burdick.

Other convenience store clerks expressed concern over the crime.

Martha Davis is a cashier at Ole's in East Missoula.

She's a friend of Adam Gallegos, who was an all night store clerk at the store, when he was shot by a gunman last year.

He's still recovering from the shooting.

Martha said hearing of the robbery and beating of Bendig is a flashback.

"People talk about Adam every day," said Davis," So we always have flashbacks."

A fund has been set up for Patrick Bendig.
