MISSOULA, Mont. -

A Missoula woman is hospitalized in stable condition and her husband is in custody after an alleged stabbing that occurred near Desmet Road and Expressway around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Missoula Sheriff's deputies arrested 45-year old Emmitt Hogsten shortly after the alleged stabbing.

Detective Jason Johnson said the 34-year-old woman was able to escape her husband after the alleged assault and stumbled into a business on Desmet Road, asking for someone to call 911.

Johnson said the woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and her husband was arrested without incident.

"His demeanor was described to me as calm and collected," said Johnson.

Deputies impounded the truck where the alleged stabbing occurred. Johnson said a 5-6 inch, fixed blade knife is visible through the window on the floor of the truck.

"Our detectives are still taking interviews and trying to make sense of what happened," said Johnson. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to this young woman. We hope that she recovers quickly."

There is no evidence as of now that this incident is related to a homicide reported Monday morning in Arlee.
