MONTANA LEGISLATURE
HELENA, Mont. -

Senate leaders say they have reached a deal aimed at ending the acrimony stemming from the Republican majority's decision to vote on bills despite Democrats' attempts to halt the proceedings.

Senate President Jeff Essmann released a statement Wednesday saying he had reached a resolution with Senate Minority Leader Jon Sesso.

Republicans allege Democrats orchestrated a senator's absence Friday in an attempt to use a rare parliamentary move that stalls business until all members are present.

The move could have killed GOP bills facing a deadline.

Democrats complain the Republicans broke the rules by ignoring their motion and going on with the session.

Essmann says he has agreed to drop subpoenas investigating whether Democrats broke decorum rules.

Democrats agreed to work with the Republicans on legislation to overhaul the political practices office.
