Picking out the perfect Christmas tree is a holiday tradition for many families. For one Montana family, their tradition is providing fresh Montana pine trees for local families to take home and decorate.
Steve and Kit Adams have been running the tree lot at the Reserve Street Rosauers for 25 years and they say they have many families who come back year after year to buy trees from them.
“I actually have customers from the very first year that have been here,” said Adams. “I see generations of families which is really amazing.”
Missoula resident Jim Wenderoth and his wife buy their Christmas tree here every year.
“I've always liked the atmosphere here just because its family friendly and the way they decorate and it’s a great location,” said Wenderoth. “It's a Montana company so that's always a good thing, so I’ve been coming here for years and I know my wife has too.”
Jim Schilke has been hauling, trimming and selling trees in the lot for seven years now. He says working for a local family makes the job all the more satisfying.
“It's cool that they get to carry on that tradition and just to be a part of that and see that first hand is really cool and rewarding,” said Schilke. “Steve and Kit are great people, amazing employers and I feel like I’m a part of their family.”
We ran into one young Missoula kid, Kobe Wolfe, who says it's one of his families’ traditions, to buy a tree from this lot.
“It took us probably five minutes to find the tree because they were just putting it on the stand and we saw it and it looked like the right choice,” said Wolfe.
Adams says his favorite part about the job is the satisfaction of sending a family home with a fresh, Montana grown tree.
“People like to come back to the same place and if they get good service and they're satisfied you could have 50 tree lots and they're going to come back to the same place,” said Adams.
Adams says nearly all the trees they sell are harvested in the Flathead area and he says last year they sold over 4,000 trees to folks in the Missoula community.
Adams tree lot is now open daily from 9 am to 9 pm.
