MISSOULA, Mont. -

The start of the New Year was also a day for new life at hospitals across the state.

The little faces pictured above belong to two newborns who each have birthdays in different years, but were born just hours apart.

Maiko Thomas Pavlik was the last baby in Missoula born in 2012, and Asher Cale Hoerner was one of the first babies born in 2013.

In all, three children were born Tuesday in Missoula on January 1, 2013.

"It brings back memories,” said Nancy Hoerner, standing next to her daughter and her new grandchild Asher. “She's my baby."

"It's an unexplainable feeling,” said Crystal Talbott, holding her newborn son Maiko. “You'd have to have a kid to understand."

The children born in Missoula Tuesday were delivered in the new labor and delivery unit at Community Medical Center, which opened a few months ago.
