Officials release names of victim, suspect in fatal Polson stabbing

MISSOULA, Mont. -

The following is an updated press release from the Lake County Sheriff's Department:

Further information regarding the stabbing homicide that occurred on 3/16/13 in Polson.  The 26 year old male victim was Polson resident John Pierre.  The suspect in this incident is Makueeyapeh Whitford, a resident of Browning.  The suspect remains in the Lake County Detention Facility on charges of deliberate homicide.

The investigation is still ongoing.  Further information will be passed on as it becomes available.

The following is a press release from the Lake County Sheriff's Department:

On March 16, 2013 at approximately 4:00 AM, a call came into the Lake County Dispatch that a male subject had been stabbed at a residence in the 1600 block of 1st St. E. in Polson.  The victim was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Less than an hour later, a male suspect was located by a Polson officer at a local motel where the suspect was arrested and transported to the Lake County Detention Facility. 

The stabbing victim was a 26 year old male residence of Polson.  The suspect is a 32 year old male from Browning.  Motive for the stabbing is unknown at this time, however alcohol consumption was involved.  Due to the proximity of the residence to the City/County line, the investigation is a joint venture between the City of Polson Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Tribal Law and Order.  The investigation is ongoing at this time.  Further information will be released as it becomes available.
