BILLINGS, Mont. -

Yellowstone County authorities have identified the man killed in a crash while fleeing a deputy as 26-year-old Justin Hoerner of Billings.

Sheriff Mike Linder says a deputy tried to pull Hoerner over Monday night after he saw the car Hoerner was driving crossed the center line of Interstate 90 and noticed minor equipment infractions.

The driver got off the interstate and sped off on North Frontage Road.

Authorities say Hoerner lost control, drove into a ditch and was thrown from the car.

The Billings Gazette reports an autopsy concluded Hoerner died of blunt-force trauma.

His passenger was 32-year-old Taisha Cornelius of Billings. She was taken to a hospital for her injuries, but she was no longer listed as a patient Tuesday.
