Searchers comb Flathead River for missing man

Dispatchers received a call just after 4pm Thursday for a missing 23 year old man who was visiting relatives from out of state. Relatives told authorities they noticed footprints leading down to the Flathead River.
Responders from Flathead County Search and Rescue started with an ice rescue, placing divers into the water and sending up a jet boat from Columbia Falls, traveling upstream. Those divers and boats were pulled out of the water around 6pm due to nightfall and potentially dangerous conditions.
Rescue crews, including North Valley Search and Rescue, Canine Team, and the US Border Patrol, re-staged at the Hungry Horse Fire Department and soon resumed search efforts.
"[We'll] continue the land search portions, checking both sides of the river to make sure we're not missing anything. Continue with K-9 resources, continue with land crews working," explained SAR Coordinator Brian Heino. "In the morning, we'll continue water operations. We'll call in more divers in the morning along with probably aircraft and the jet boat."
