Suspect tied to list of vehicle break-ins
On March 18, 23-year old Kalispell resident Traveis Eilers was apprehended on suspicion of theft. Kalispell officers say their department has received a large number of theft from vehicle and criminal mischief complains starting in November of 2012, and Eilers has been identified as a suspect.
Officers say Eilers was apprehended after a short pursuit. According to court records, prosecutors are tying him to more than ten vehicle break-ins in the Flathead. He’s currently behind bars and charged with Felony Theft Common Scheme and Felony Criminal Mischief. Detectives are still investigating possible connections to other thefts, and folks with information are asked to call Kalispell Detective Melissa Smith at 406-758-7791.
Last week, NBC Montana interviewed a woman whose car had been broken into and gym bag stolen. Officers say they have not tied the woman’s case to Eilers at this point, but she says KRMC security staff have told her that Eilers is a suspect in her case.
“You just don’t think it would happen in such a small town, and after I heard about so many of these occurring. You just can never be safe no matter where you live so you just need to be more cautious and put your things in the trunk and out of sight,” said Flathead resident Jennifer.
