Tax season is here again and there are only 75 days to file this year.
Wednesday afternoon NBC Montana met with one local tax preparation business. Owner Lisa Green tells us the fiscal cliff caused major delays for the 2013 tax season.
Green says this is why people are just now starting to receive their W2s in the mail; she says the delay led her to extend her businesses hours in anticipation of a larger flow of customers.
“Usually at this time people are actually receiving their refunds versus just having the IRS accept their files,” said Green. “There are a lot of people out there who are realistically expecting to have a refund in January and it will not be until February, maybe the middle of February.”
The IRS suggests filing online and choosing direct deposit to get your return as quickly as possible.
Taxes must be filed by April 15 to avoid late fees.
