WHS honors local veterans at assembly
Whitefish High School took a moment on Friday to reflect and remember veterans in the Flathead. The school's student council put on the annual assembly which featured performances by the WHS choir, band, and orchestra as well as a speech by Sergeant Rod Samdahl.
Samdahl is a Marine Veteran who explained to students what a veteran is. Veterans, he said, are all equal in the eyes of the country, no matter what service branch they served in. Veterans give themselves up to serve their country and take an oath to defend our constitution.
"I stand here in awe today of their sacrifices for this great country," Samdahl explained, "a country which has given me so much. I count myself blessed by God and absolutely lucky to have been born in America. And it is the American veteran who has given me that gift."
