BOZEMAN, Mont. -

NBC Montana has learned the annual Rainbow Gathering is set to take place in Montana this year.

The 2013 site announcement is according to a statement on welcomehome.org, an unofficial site associated with the gathering.  The group has no official spokesperson or organization.

We reached out to officials with the U.S Forest Service to try and find out if a specific location has been identified.

Phil Sammon, the Northern Region Media Coordinator, tells us the agency has not heard of an exact location but are preparing to provide assistance to local forests if and when a site is selected in Montana.

He says the Rainbow Family normally makes a decision about the location around mid-June.

The event is billed as a collection of communities who promote non-violence and alternative lifestyles.

Attendance at the gathering normally begins the last week or so of June and peaks over the Fourth of July holiday.

The last Rainbow Gathering held in Montana was in 2000 in the Big Hole Valley.  Around 23,000 people attended.

Three people were cited by the government for failing to obtain a permit for the event.
