CHURCH ABUSE
MISSOULA, Mont. -

An attorney for plaintiffs suing the Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena says more than 50 priests will be named as sexual abusers if a legal settlement is approved.

Attorney Tim Kosnoff tells Lee Newspapers of Montana the victims wanted their abusers to be publicly identified. The proposed settlement agreement calls for credibly accused clergy members to be listed on the diocese's website.

More than 360 victims claim in two lawsuits they were abused as children in western Montana from the 1940s to the 1970s. Most of the accused priests are dead.

The proposed $15 million settlement is now in U.S. Bankruptcy Court after the diocese filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in January.

Two separate lawsuits against Diocese of Great Falls-Billings are pending and now include 50 victims claiming clergy abuse.
