Bartender charged with over-serving woman
Jurors are deliberating the case of a Helena bartender charged with continuing to serve alcohol to an intoxicated woman who later killed two people in a drunken driving crash.
Jurors were to resume deliberations Wednesday morning, after meeting for two hours on Tuesday without reaching a verdict.
William Gleed is charged with over-serving Arielle Schescke and another man in the hours before a crash near East Helena last April that killed 51-year-old Mildred Richard and her 16-year-old granddaughter, Justine Smith.
He also was charged with obstructing a police officer for initially directing investigators to other bars.
Defense attorney Wendy Holton argued Tuesday that prosecutors could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Gleed served alcohol to Schescke when she was apparently under the influence.
