Belfry man gets 20 years for fatal crash
A 31-year-old Belfry man who pleaded guilty to killing an East Helena woman while driving drunk in August has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
District Judge Blair Jones sentenced Shawn Edward Christman to 20 years for vehicular homicide for the death of 22-year-old Keahrice Ledesma Reel. Jones added a 10-year suspended sentence for vehicular assault during Wednesday's sentencing in Red Lodge.
Court records say Christman had a blood-alcohol level of 0.298 percent when his car crossed the center line near Fromberg and struck another car head-on, killing Reel and injuring the 15-year-old girl driving the other vehicle. He pleaded guilty in October.
Carbon County Attorney Alex Nixon says Christman was fined $2,000 and ordered to pay more than $7,000 in restitution.
