Billings VA Clinic still hiring doctors, surgeons
Some Montana veterans and U.S. Sen. Jon Tester are concerned the new VA Billings Clinic will not be adequately staffed in time for its scheduled opening in less than six weeks.
The $6.3 million, 70,000-square-foot center was built to bring treatment closer to veterans living in eastern Montana, who may have otherwise had to travel to the VA Hospital near Helena for surgery or other specialty treatments.
Ed Saunders with the Billings chapter of Disabled American Veterans said it became clear during a recent tour that there were issues with staffing the clinic.
The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1gFr6mH) the clinic has filled 30 positions, but is still recruiting and hiring for about 20 more including several physicians.
Tester wrote a letter to the Veterans Affairs secretary asking him to ensure the hospital is appropriately staffed.
