MISSOULA, Mont. -

Former Montana Lieutenant Governor John Bohlinger announced he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2014.

The announcement came at the Lewis and Clark County Democrats’ fundraiser in Helena Tuesday night.

Bohlinger plans to run as a Democrat for the seat being vacated by Max Baucus when he retires.

Bohlinger’s traditionally a Republican.  He spent years as a Republican legislator and was a Republican Lieutenant Governor under Brian Schweitzer for eight years.

His run sets up a primary with the state’s current Lieutenant Governor, John Walsh and Wilsall rancher, Dirk Adams.
