BOZEMAN, Mont. -

A Bozeman man appeared before a judge Tuesday morning after deputies said he pointed a loaded gun at his girlfriend and threatened to shoot her.

According to court documents, 32-year old Brad Essig got upset at his girlfriend after she didn't clean up after their dog or make dinner on Sunday.

The woman told sheriff's deputies that she was talking on the phone with her mom when Essig grabbed the phone, threw it and broke it then kicked over the chair she was sitting in.

The alleged victim said this caused her to fall over and hit her head. After that, she went on to say Essig picked her up by her shirt and held her against the wall.

Prosecutors claim Essig grabbed a .22 caliber rifle and pointed it right at his girlfriend.

He allegedly fired a shot into the ground, but said the next round would hit her.

Court documents state Essig then pushed his girlfriend outside, before firing another round inside the house.

When police questioned Essig, he denied firing the rifle.

Deputies said he appeared intoxicated and smelled of marijuana. They charged him with Assault with a Weapon and on Tuesday, Judge Bryan Adams set bail at $50,000.
