Bullock plans to let partial pension fix settle in

HELENA, Mont. -

Gov. Steve Bullock says he doesn't plan any immediate changes to the state's pension overhaul if pending lawsuits result in a portion of it being thrown out.
Bullock said Friday he thinks the Legislature's overhaul plan he signed this year can be successful even if courts strike planned cuts for retirees.
A day earlier, retired public employees challenged the plan's cuts to their annual 3 percent inflationary increases. Retired teachers had previously filed a lawsuit challenging the changes affecting them.
They argued it was an unconstitutional change in contract.
Projections show it would take much longer to balance the systems if the retirees win the challenges.
But Bullock says he would want to see the effect of the pension fix for a couple of years before making any other changes.
