One man is now behind bars after Butte police named two persons of interest in a murder investigation.
24-year-old Jeffery Lackman and 36-year-old Vernon Maddock are wanted for questioning in late night murder in Butte last night.
We just received word that Maddock turned himself in at the law enforcement center at this afternoon. Lackman is still at-large.
Police responded to the 1300-block of Casey Street, north of Interstate 90 after a call came in to dispatch late Monday night that a man had been shot.
Police say the incident happened in the backyard around 11 p.m. Monday. They say the two suspects and the victim knew each other.
Police are currently tracking down leads and looking for witnesses. They believe there were several people other than the suspects at the time of the crime, and are hoping to get information from them.
Neighbors say the house is known for making and dealing drugs. Police have not confirmed this but they are urging the public to be cautious.
Maddock is currently being held on an unrelated charge of possession of dangerous drugs.
Police say Lackman is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information call 9-1-1 immediately.

One of the two persons of interest in the recent homicide in Butte has turned himself in at the Butte Police Department after seeing himself in some of the local media coverage of the investigation. Vernon Earl Maddock turned himself in at the Law Enforcement Center at approximately 1pm this afternoon.
Maddock is currently incarcerated in the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center on an unrelated charge of possession of dangerous drugs.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department is still attempting to locate the second person of interest, Jeffery Bruce Lackman. Lackman is to be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. If sighted please contact your local law enforcement department.
The Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff's Department released this information Tuesday morning:
At 11:20 pm on August 5, 2013, Butte-Silver Bow emergency dispatch received a call of a male who had been shot in the 1300 block of Casey Street in Butte. Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. They then located a 46 year old male who had been shot. The male had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was taken to St. James Healthcare for treatment. The male passed away as a result of his injuries a short time after arriving at the hospital.
The victim is not being identified at this time, pending notification of family members.
The victim's remains have been transported to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula. An autopsy is pending.
Through subsequent investigation it has been determined that a number of persons were at the scene when the incident occurred and left prior to police arrival. We have developed two persons of interest. We are attempting to locate both persons at this time.
The first person is Jeffery Bruce Lackman. Lackman is a 24 year old white male, 6 feet tall, 175 pounds, black hair and blue eyes. See photo.
The second person is Vernon Earl Maddock. Maddock is a 36 year old white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, brown hair, and blue eyes. See photo.
Both men should be considered armed and potentially dangerous and efforts are underway to locate them at this time.
Lackman and Maddock may be traveling in a 2 door red 1994 Acura Legend bearing Montana License plates 1-14654A.
Investigation is continuing at the scene of the incident. Further information will be released as it develops in an effort to assist in the investigation into this incident.
