BUTTE, Mont. -

Butte police arrested a woman after they say she backed into a toddler with her SUV, then took off.

Police say it happened Tuesday afternoon on Hobson Avenue. A woman driving an SUV apparently nearly ran over a three-year old boy, and hit him so hard he got knocked off his bike.

Police searched for the vehicle, and say the woman later returned to Hobson Avenue. They arrested and ticketed 26-year old Elizabeth Ann Bettle.

We're told the boy had to go to the hospital.

"He was taken to St. James by ambulance that night after the accident," said Undersheriff George Skuletich. "I understand there were minor injuries, but I am not sure what occurred after that."

The woman's been charged with several misdemeanor offenses- including hit and run, and interfering with traffic while backing up.
