Commissioner seeks Miller's removal from office
The state's campaign finance regulator is asking a judge to rule that a Montana legislator illegally accepted corporate contributions and to remove him from office.
Commissioner of Political Practices Jonathan Motl filed the complaint Friday against Republican Rep. Mike Miller of Helmville. The case has been assigned to District Judge Kathy Seeley.
The filing is the first enforcement action taken since Motl began his investigation into complaints of illegal coordination between dozens of Republican candidates and the secretive conservative group Western Tradition Partnership in 2010.
Motl has issued findings of illegal coordination and unreported contributions against four other legislative candidates in 2010. He opened investigations into complaints against four more on Friday, including Senate Majority Leader Art Wittich.
Miller says he did not violate any laws and declined further comment until he hires an attorney.
