Commissioners vote to demolish old Butte buildings
The Council of Commissioners for the city and county of Butte-Silver Bow has voted to demolish two historic buildings in Butte.
The Montana Standard reports (http://bit.ly/175pbC9) that commissioners voted 10-2 on Wednesday to remove the buildings after potential developers didn't come forward.
Historic preservation officer Jim Jarvis recommended the buildings be demolished. He notes that Butte has other buildings of greater importance.
Officials say an asbestos abatement plan is needed before demolition can begin.
Crews won't be available for at least a month, and demolition will take about two weeks.
