MISSOULA, Mont. -

The first part of the Missoula County Courthouse renovation project should wrap up this fall -- on budget and on time.

For now, things around the building can be confusing and messy A sign sits at one entrance with a list of departments and where they’re temporarily located. Tarps, closed doors, cones and danger tape take up most of the first floor of the building.

But Missoula County’s Communications and Project Manager Anne Hughes said it will likely be unveiled and maybe back to normal by fall.

“We're shooting for November sometime,” said Hughes.

Tuesday, workers laid carpet in what will be a new Justice Court courtroom on the first floor. There’s plenty of work going on behind the scenes as well.

“We’re completely redoing all of the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, electrical plumbing and all of that,” Hughes said.

There's more to it than courtrooms -- the three-phase courthouse renovation plan is outlined on the Missoula County website.

Phase one is the biggest of three phases. It includes the entire first floor of the courthouse that will house the Justice Court courtrooms, Justice Court offices, the Motor Vehicle/Treasurer Department, the Elections Office and the County Commissioners' public meeting room.

Phase one also includes the renovation of the Annex basement which will house the 911 Dispatch and Training Center and a portion of the fourth floor annex for the County Attorney's office.

The renovation plan has a completion date of 2016.

“It's on schedule on schedule and on budget which is really great,” said Hughes. “We just hope that folks continue to be really patient and know that we're going to end up with a really great space.”
