Two people died after reports of gunshots in a rural area north of Darby.

Names still haven't been released, but townspeople say a man and woman died.

DARBY, Mont. -

Darby is reacting to an apparent murder-suicide in a rural area north of Darby on Monday. Names of the two people who died still have not been released, pending notification of kin.

Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman isn't releasing any new information.

He said his office is being "extremely careful. Circumstances are complicated," he said, with investigators conducting a "methodical investigation."

But news of the deaths is all over town. Townspeople said a man and a woman are dead.

"She was only here a short time," said Darby resident and store worker Jason Cruce. "He's been around here 5 or 6 years."

Cruce said the man used to come into Mr T's fairly often, where they often talked hunting and fishing. The man had a couple dogs, said Cruce, and sometimes seemed on edge.

"He seemed maybe he had a few problems," he said, "but for the most part he seemed like a pretty normal guy."

The woman was sweet, said a friend.

Neighbors said the couple had lived in at least two houses in the area, and hadn't lived in the house they died in for very long.
