Deer Lodge man sentenced for killing wife
A 65-year-old Deer Lodge man has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for stabbing his wife to death last December.
The Montana Standard reports District Judge Ray Dayton sentenced Dennis Leo Schowengerdt on Sept. 27 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the death of Tina Schowengerdt.
Schowengerdt pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide in April, saying he wouldn't be able to handle a trial.
Court records say Schowengerdt stabbed his wife, left her to bleed to death on the living room floor and turned himself the next morning after feeding the horses and sheep. Powell County Sheriff Scott Howard said Schowengerdt confessed to the stabbing, adding: "I don't even feel bad about it."
